Did you Know?
The Warehouse team supports electric and water operations by managing the PUD’s inventory, issuing and delivering materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, enabling storm readiness and peak response, supporting supply-chain planning and safeguarding significant PUD assets.
The Warehouse crew consists of 30-plus team members, including manager, general foreman, warehouse foreman, planners, storekeepers, warehousemen, office technicians and analysts.
The electric and water warehouse crews have been bursting with activity, taking care of over 5,600 different electric materials and 800 different water materials. The PUD is at or near storage capacity for stock materials in all its warehouses.
- 9 million: Number of stock parts on hand
- 13 million: Number of stock parts counted and verified in 2025. Standards’ critical parts are counted multiple times a year!
- 72,000: Number of miles driven in 2025 for material deliveries to job sites or to restock outer warehouses
Environmental Impact of Recycling Metals
At the PUD, we do all we can to recycle and reuse materials! Recycling surplus metals supports both environmental stewardship and responsible asset management:
- Metal is one of the most recyclable materials in the world.
- Reduced greenhouse gas emissions: Recycling scrap metal requires 60–90% less energy than mining and processing new materials.
- Lower carbon footprint: The EPA estimates that recycling one ton of aluminum prevents 7,850 pounds of carbon-dioxide emissions. Through aluminum recycling alone, the PUD has prevented more than 90,000 pounds of carbon-dioxide emissions.
- No landfill waste: Recycling diverts hazardous metals from landfills, helping protect soil and groundwater.
- Cost offsets: Scrap recovery helps offset disposal and handling costs.
What Is Surplus Property and How Does It Work?
Surplus personal property is PUD-owned equipment or materials no longer needed for operations that, once declared surplus, may be recycled, sold, donated or destroyed – depending on condition and value. Funds recovered from surplus sales are returned to the PUD and ultimately benefit you! Surplus, vehicle and metal scrap sales generated more than $1.32 million last year.
