Camano Island Planned Outage

Thursday, November 20 from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

In order to bring the new North Camano Substation online, the PUD will need to temporarily de-energize power lines feeding Camano Island. We will strive to work as efficiently as possible to bring this significant reliability improvement online.  We appreciate your patience.

FAQs

Why is this power outage necessary?

The PUD is taking power offline for most Camano Island residents to reconnect the North Camano Substation to the grid. Over the past year, the PUD has been working on a number of significant improvements to the substation, including replacing equipment and upgrading materials to increase reliability and capacity.  Power is expected to be out for approximately four hours, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. starting Nov. 20, 2025. We will work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

Why did the PUD need to rebuild the substation?

The North Camano Substation and its equipment was more than 50 years old and in need of upgrading. This work, in combination with the new Stanwood to Camano transmission line, will help increase reliability on Camano Island and in surrounding areas. The improvements to the substation also offer additional capacity to meet electricity needs as the community continues to grow.

What should I do to prepare for this outage?

  • Unplug any sensitive electronics.
  • Charge cell phones and other devices you may need during this time.
  • Make sure you have extra batteries on hand for flashlights.
