New Energy Star LED (light-emitting diodes) holiday lights use 75% less energy than conventional incandescent lights strings. And the life expectancy of LED Lights is 25,000-50,000 hours!
Other benefits of LED holidays lights include:
- If one bulb burns out, the rest of the string stays lit;
- LED lights are cool to the touch;
- You can use up to 20 strings together on one circuit.
Retail cost is around $10 to $15 per string of 70 lights. They are available at Bartell Drugs, Target, The Home Depot, Lowes, and other stores throughout the area. Look and ask for ENERGY STAR LEDs to make sure you are purchasing energy-efficient holiday lights.
If all decorative light strings sold in the United States were ENERGY STAR certified, the energy cost savings would grow to about $850 million each year and 9.9 billion pounds of annual greenhouse gas emission would be prevented, equivalent to the emissions from 940,000 vehicles.
