Community Energy FUNdraiser: Parachute Drop Challenge

Community Energy Fund logo: Helping Neighbors in NeedA Community Energy FUNdraiser! Participants purchased a parachuter, which were dropped en masse from a bucket truck by a skilled PUD lineman. The parachuter that touched down closest to the bull’s eye scored a prize!

All proceeds went to the Community Energy Fund, helping keep the lights on for our neighbors in need.

Powering Tomorrow: Storage, Small Modular Reactors & Fusion Explained (PUD Emerging Technologies, Energy Northwest, and Helion)

Industry leaders from Snohomish PUD, Helion, and Energy Northwest shared insights into the future of energy in the Northwest. This presentation covered three informative topics.

  • Energy Storage: The latest advancements in storing renewable energy and how these technologies are shaping grid reliability at the Snohomish PUD.
  • Small Modular Reactors (SMRs): The next generation of nuclear energy and its potential to provide safe, scalable, and clean energy. Experts from Energy Northwest talked about their project currently underway in Richland, Washington.
  • Fusion Energy: Clean, abundant electricity. Helion shared details around plans to deliver fusion energy to the grid by 2030.

This session was designed to inform, inspire, and provide clarity on emerging energy technologies that will impact our region’s future.

Alex Chorey has worked as an engineer for Snohomish County Public Utility District for over 18 years.  After graduating from Gonzaga University in 2007, he joined the PUD’s distribution and transmission engineering groups to build and maintain the electrical grid in Snohomish County.  After spending much of his career focused on building the infrastructure to deliver power to customers, he transitioned to his current role in the Energy Storage and Emerging Technologies group which is working to ensure that the PUD has reliable capacity resources to flow through that infrastructure.  Alex is a Washington native and is excited to be a part of the development of clean energy resources in the Pacific Northwest.

Jackie Eutsey is the Strategic Outreach Program Manager for Nuclear Development at Energy Northwest. In this role, she leads stakeholder engagement and external affairs for the advanced nuclear reactor partnership with Amazon and X-energy. Previously, she spent nine years at the American Gas Association in Washington, DC. Jackie holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Ohio University and a masters in corporate communications and public relations from Georgetown University. In her free time, she enjoys kayaking and riding motorcycles with her husband across the Pacific Northwest.

Kyra is a technology narrative strategist who currently serves as Outreach Manager at Helion Energy, shaping how emerging technologies are understood and trusted. Her work across aerospace, arts, and fusion, from Virgin Galactic to Helion Energy, connects technical rigor with public trust through strategic storytelling and engagement. Operating at the intersection of science, story, and strategy, she influences how innovation earns credibility, legitimacy, and long-term support.

A nostalgic twist on a classic favorite! The PUD Electric Cake Walk brought back the joy of elementary school cake walks – this time with an electrifying Energy Block Party spin. Each round featured one lucky grand prize winner—including a chance to snag a $100 bill credit!

“Wanda Flipplefairy” A Magical Journey for Young Explorers!

A delightful, interactive storytelling adventure following water’s incredible journey from snow-capped mountains to Spada Lake Reservoir, through water treatment and all the way to our home faucets. Designed especially for youngsters, this lively 35‑minute program used costumes, props, and imagination to help kids discover:

  • Where our water comes from: rain, snow, lakes, and the systems that deliver it.
  • Why water matters: how every drop takes a long, important journey.
  • How kids can be “Conservation Sensations”: simple, empowering ways to save water every day.

Led by a playful, costumed storyteller, this program sparks curiosity, encourages participation, and leaves kids excited about protecting one of our most precious resources.

The Wanda Storytelling program incorporates NGSS and Common Core (ELA) learning standards.

Tree Giveaway!

Attendees learned about the work we did to prevent outages through tree trimming and entered a drawing to win a free tree. Drawings happened every hour starting at 10:45 a.m.

Travel & Parking

Walk, bike, carpool or ride the bus

The PUD has limited parking available in its lower lot to the west of the building along California Street. There is also a small amount of street parking in the neighborhood along residential roads. The PUD’s headquarters are located three quarters of a mile north of the Everett Station transit hub. Everett Transit routes 3, 4 and 7 run by the PUD’s headquarters, as well as several Community Transit routes.
