Meet Zip & Zap... and friends!

Zip & Zap, PUD Mascots

Nestled in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, twin squirrels Zip and Zap lived in an acorn house near Spada Lake. Known for their boundless energy and curiosity, they thrived in their lush forest home. Zip had an incredible knack for working with her paws, while Zap excelled at understanding complex systems. Other forest creatures appreciated the squirrels talent for environmental stewardship and community building.

After completing their studies at Spada Squirrel School, they started jobs at a local acorn factory. Sorting nuts all day left the squirrels feeling like empty shells. Thankfully, their talents were soon recognized by the Snohomish County PUD.

Eager to serve their community, Zip and Zap joined the PUD, with Zip thriving on the line crews and Zap excelling in customer service. Their presence brought warmth and friendliness to the company, fostering a sense of community and reliability. Their journey from an acorn house to becoming utility mascots stands as a testament to the power of nature, family, and making a positive impact.

Meet Splash, the Water Otter

Adorable sketch of Splash, the PUD water otter waving Born beneath majestic cedars on the winding banks of Washington’s Skykomish River, Splash the river otter grew up in a world filled with wonder. His silvery fur glimmered as he learned to swim and play, always under the gentle guidance of his mother. The river was his playground—alive with darting fish, swirling eddies, and mysterious stone hideouts—yet, even amidst all this beauty, Splash sometimes felt curiosity about the wider world.

One autumn morning, while racing after a school of suckers, Splash’s adventure took an unexpected turn. He spotted Zip and Zap, squirrel twins bursting with energy, tumbling and chattering along the riverbank. Sporting bright yellow vests and peculiar paw coverings, they were unlike any squirrels Splash had seen. Their laughter was infectious, drawing Splash out of the water to join their playful escapades. Quickly, the three became close friends, spending their days exploring, leaping logs, and sharing stories.

Splash was fascinated by Zip and Zap’s work at the Snohomish Public Utility District (PUD), where they help keep the lights on, manage public lands, and protect clean water for the community. Inspired by their dedication and teamwork, Splash realized his own care for the river could grow into something greater. Zip and Zap saw Splash’s talents—his keen devotion to the river’s health, his cleverness, and his playful spirit—and encouraged him to join the PUD’s water utility team. With their help, Splash learned about the importance of community service and became a beloved ambassador for water protection throughout Snohomish County.

Now, Splash works alongside Zip and Zap, visiting schools to teach others about the importance of conserving water and cherishing local rivers. He has found not only friendship and purpose, but also a new sense of adventure that extends far beyond the banks of the Skykomish. Splash’s story is one of friendship, curiosity, and the rewarding impact of serving the community—a true guardian of the river whose work helps keep Snohomish County’s waters cleaner and safer for everyone.
