Use Your JuiceBox Connected Charger to Earn Rewards & Save Money

SnoPUD’s FlexEnergy JuiceBox pilots will give customers the opportunity to earn incentives and save money on their bill by charging their electric vehicles at times when the PUD has surplus energy. These pilots are voluntary and open to all PUD customers who meet eligibility requirements.

There are two pilots: FlexPeak and FlexResponse. Pick the one that works for you!

Which Program Would Be Best for You?

Save 10% On Your Energy Rate All Year

Throughout the year, customers signed up for the FlexPeak pilot will save 10% on their energy rate, from 10.4 cents per kilowatt to 9.03 cents per kilowatt. The only time when that rate changes is when the PUD designates an event and alerts pilot participants to a higher peak rate. Events will only take place during winter (Nov.-Feb.) and will never be longer than 4 hours.

Earn incentives and save money:

  • Enroll in the FlexPeak pilot and earn a bill credit of $20 each month from Nov. 2021 through Feb. 2022 for a total of $80
  • Save 10% on your energy rate throughout the year
  • Save money by reducing energy usage during high-priced peak events
  • Enroll your device in the program to save energy and money

The FlexPeak pilot will give customers the opportunity to reduce energy usage and save money during specific times and days the PUD designates. Throughout the year, customers will receive a 10% reduction on their energy rate (.903 cents/kWh) and see monthly savings on their bill.

During winter months (Nov.–Feb.), customers will be alerted to specific events by SMS text message where the energy rate increases to $1/kWh. Customers will be notified of these events one day prior and customer can opt not to allow their device to respond to the event. Customers will still be subject to the peak rate during the event. Events will last no longer than 4 hours per day and will not be called more than 15 times during a winter season.

How much will a typical PUD customer save?

Throughout the non-winter months (March through Oct.), PUD customers can expect to save 10% on their bill if they keep their energy usage patterns unchanged. That’s on top of four bill credits of $20 each month for the first winter. During the winter, customers will need to shift their energy usage away from the peak events to save money and keep their bill similar to their typical winter bills. Customers who don’t shift their energy usage during the peak events called by the PUD can expect to see a bill 5-20% higher than in past winters.

What’s the catch?

Customers will be billed $1/kWh for up to 4 hours on a single day during peak events. That’s approximately 10 times the standard energy rate (10.4 cents/kWh) that PUD residential customers pay. If customers aren’t willing to shift their energy usage during these peak events, they could see much higher bills during the winter months. Customers can opt not to allow their device to respond to the event. Customers will still be subject to the peak rate during the event.

Are there any safeguards for customers who sign up?

Yes, we have a break-even guarantee that eliminates the risk of participating through the first winter. The PUD guarantees you’ll save money compared to what your bills would have been on our standard residential rate by June 30, 2022. If you don’t, we’ll credit you the difference.

Shift Away from Grid Peaks to Earn Incentives and Help the PUD Be Greener

Customers can sign up to receive FlexResponse event alerts to reduce energy. FlexResponse events will never be longer than 4 hours during a given day. These events take place when both demand on the grid and prices on the energy market are at their highest. If customers save energy during these times, it can help the PUD keep rates affordable and its energy resources clean.

Incentives: Customers who enroll in the FlexResponse pilot will earn a bill credit of $80 signing up and an annual bill credit of $40 for 2022 and 2023 based on program participation.

The FlexResponse pilot will allow customers to earn incentives by leveraging their JuiceBox connected EV charger to reduce energy consumption at specific times the PUD designates. Customers will be notified of events one day prior by SMS text message and given the option to take part in the event.

How will I know when an alert has been initiated?

The PUD will send you an SMS text message the day before an event letting you know that a peak event is scheduled for the following day. We’ll also alert your device so that it can help you save.

What do I do during an event?

Actually, you don’t have to do anything during an event! Really? Yes, the PUD will alert your device that we’re planning an event so that it can help you save – just try not to adjust the temperature on your thermostat or start charging your electric vehicle during the event. If you enroll a thermostat in the program, your device will help you reduce energy use by adjusting the temperature setting, sometimes even pre-warming the house to help you ride through an event in comfort. If you enroll a connected EV charger, your device will help reduce energy use by pausing charging until after the event has passed.

How long will these events be?

Peak events will be 1 to 4 hours in length and the PUD won’t call a peak event more than 15 times per winter season, which runs from Nov. 1 through Feb. 28. There are two winter seasons during the pilot. Peak events will not be called on weekends or federal holidays.
