Attendees Can Learn About Three Potential Route Options and Share Input
Snohomish County PUD invites community members to attend an open house to learn about potential routes for a new transmission line on Thursday, July 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hidden River Middle School, 9224 Paradise Lake Rd., Snohomish, Wash.
Attendees will learn about the three potential route options and construction timeline and can share input on the route they prefer. Translation will be available.
The new transmission line is essential for delivering power to the PUD’s new Paradise Substation. The substation is being constructed to relieve heavily loaded circuits that currently extend to the edge of the PUD’s service territory where there are limited options for alternate power sources. As a result, the existing infrastructure poses challenges to reliability and operational flexibility. The new substation, enabled by this transmission line, will significantly improve service conditions in the region.
The Maltby to Paradise Line will provide the following benefits to PUD customers:
- Improved power quality for customers in the area
- Fewer and shorter power outages
- More stable and resilient service for homes and businesses
- Increased capacity to serve existing and future demand
- Enhanced system reliability and operational flexibility
- Stronger support for local economic growth and development
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028. The PUD is considering a variety of options to lower the impact on local business and residents, including working around customers’ business hours, minimizing multiple lane closures and impacts to customers’ driveways, and providing early notice and coordination with directly impacted customers.
“The Maltby to Paradise line is crucial infrastructure that will strengthen our grid and help ensure that we can continue to provide reliable power to customers,” said PUD CEO/GM John Haarlow. “We encourage businesses and residents to attend the meeting to share their preferred route.”
