Attendees will tour the PUD’s run-of-the-river hydropower project, powerhouse, and the Food Forest
Explore the wonders of hydropower at the Snohomish County PUD’s Hydropower Appreciation Day, Saturday, May 17, at the Woods Creek Sustainability Center in Monroe, Wash.
This unique event takes community members behind the scenes to learn about the process of generating clean, renewable energy from water at the Woods Creek Hydroelectric Project. Attendees will also tour the PUD’s Food Forest, learn how the utility protects fish populations, and tour the facility’s weir and powerhouse. This is a free event, but space is limited. The small but mighty run-of-the-river hydropower project serves clean, renewable energy to roughly 200 homes each year.
“As a public power utility, these types of events are a core part of what we do and allow us to share our work with our customer-owners,” said Jason Zyskowski, PUD’s Chief Energy Resources Officer. “It’s wonderful to welcome the public and our customers to this project for the third year to learn how their utility sustainably generates electricity.”
Tours last approximately an hour and fifteen minutes. The PUD’s squirrel mascots, Zip and Zap, will be at the event between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to add to the fun. Learn more at snopud.com/waterwow.
