New Load Policy

Which fees apply to new load growth? Transformers fall under amp & service fees, while substation transformers and additional capacity improvements fall under new load policy fees. Line extensions are their own category of fee.

The PUD New Load Policy requires an up-front, refundable deposit for new or existing customers that grow by more than 2.5 MW, the same amount of electrical load as 400 single-family homes. This policy protects PUD ratepayers from bearing costs spent to serve a customer who leaves before providing the amount of energy demand, and revenue, anticipated when infrastructure to support them is built. New load customers will get their money back over 10 years if they stick around.
