Most PUD customers receive all of their electricity from the PUD. However, a few customers are able to generate electricity using environmentally friendly methods. Our Net Metering Program allows these customers to "store" electricity generated in excess of their immediate needs with the PUD for use at some future time.
Customers who use solar, wind, hydro, biogas from animal waste, or combined heat and power technologies (including fuel cells) with capacity not greater than 100 kilowatts may be eligible to participate in our Net Metering Program. Participating customers connect their generating equipment to, and operate in parallel with, the PUD's electrical distribution system.
Net Metering is a policy allowing utility customers with small, renewable generating facilities to sell their excess electricity back to the utility. When a customer's generating equipment is producing more electricity than is being used by the customer, the customer's meter will literally spin backwards, sending power back into the grid.
How do you join the Net Metering Program?
Just fill out an Interconnection Application and a Net Metering Agreement (both listed to the right) and submit to our Energy Efficiency Services department. A PUD energy engineer will work with you to ensure that your installation is completed expediently and safely. Our goal is to make your net metering installation a success!
